According to the latest news reports emerging in the media, the star all-rounder also known as “boom boom” is set to retire from T20 Internationals, the only format he is currently available for national selection.

A member of the national selection committee reveals that the 36 year old former captain who retired from One Day Internationals after Cricket World Cup in Australia last year, has contacted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a farewell match in the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies in the UAE. The PCB has decided that Afridi will not only be included in the squad against West Indies but will also play the three T20 matches so that he can retire honorably.

According to some Indian media reports, apparently the PCB and national selectors are now building a new T20 squad for the next World T20 Cup, and have informed Afridi that there is no place for him in that team. However, for his services to Pakistan Cricket he will be offered a chance to be included in the Pakistan squad for the T20 series against the West Indies as 16th player, and it’s up to him to decide if he wants to play one match or the whole series.
